I’m Alexander M. Hynd

I am a Lecturer (tenure-track Assistant Professor) at the University of Melbourne's Asia Institute, where I research and teach Korean politics and international relations. I am also the Deputy Director of the University of Melbourne's Masters in International Relations.

My research examines the identities and behaviours of second tier Indo-Pacific states. I have a particular interest in the green energy transition, economic coercion, and nuclear non-proliferation.

I have published in leading international journals such as International Studies Quarterly, International Relations, and Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space.

I currently hold fellowships with the Australia India Institute, the Melbourne Energy Institute, and the University of Vienna's European Centre for North Korean Studies. I am also a member of the Crisis Scenarios Working Group, a NATO Science for Peace and Security Project on Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic Crisis Prevention, co-led by the Asia Pacific Leadership Network (APLN) and European Leadership Network (ELN).
